I’ve Got a Name
Jim Croce was right. I’m Sammy Criscitello, a 30-year-old storyteller from Washington, DC. I’ve been enamored by music as long as I can remember. There’s a paradox in music that gets me every time: a song can simultaneously transport you into the life of someone who lived nothing like you, while also proving that everything you feel — every fear, every joy, every ache — has been felt by countless others. It’s empathy and validation wrapped together. That comfort is like nothing else.
I hope to use this platform to shine a light on the role individual songs play in shaping our existence, and introduce timeless songs to new listeners by sharing them with readers.
Why I’m on Substack
We’re approaching an inflection point in how people consume content online. I think we’re all getting burnt out by algorithms that prioritize attention over quality. We’re tired of endless scrolling, sponsored posts, and content that disappears into the void. There’s a growing appetite for something different: curated ecosystems that feel personal, focused, and community-driven.
